Lucy McCabe

Women's Officer

Pronouns: She/her

I’m a 4th year Politics & International Relations student from Yorkshire, working to empower underrepresented communities (Women in Politics President, LGBTQ+ Association Women’s Rep, NUS delegate, Student Mentor). Professionally experienced in campaign execution and policy analysis, I’ve also captained within Social Netball and love my gerbils (Oreo, Soy, and Wasabi)!

What would you like to achieve in your role as an Officer this year?

Derived from my core value of our community being safer and stronger together, my aims are grouped into key themes: safety, collaboration, accessibility & health.

Increasing officer visibility (through comms & media) is also an interwoven aim.

Safety:
Engage with Community Safety and the West Midland’s Police Violence Against Women and Girls Officer to…
⁃ Increase lighting & improve security training.
⁃ Strengthen Report + Support & implement Emergency Response Plans.
⁃ Facilitate student initiatives (e.g. frequent self-defence classes).

Collaboration:
⁃ Create a women’s working group to review, feedback & create policies.

Accessibility:
⁃ Extending access to essential resources: sustainably addressing period poverty & equipping students with sexual health products and knowledge.

Health:
⁃ Advance the cause of women’s health societies (e.g. Uni Boob Team)
⁃ Revive PCOS Society

I also will continue to engage our community through socials and empowering events (e.g. Reclaim the Night and International Women’s Day).
