The Women in Law Society (WILSOC), established in 2020 at the University of Birmingham, is an empowering community of aspiring female lawyers!
Our mission is to create a supportive space where women from all backgrounds can build friendships, access opportunities, and gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the legal profession.
Although the seniority gap in law has narrowed in recent years, women still represent only 32% of full-equity partners in law firms in the UK. WILSOC is committed to challenging these barriers and championing the next generation of female lawyers. We host a diverse programme of events including practical skills workshops, insightful panel discussions, networking opportunities, and engaging socials.
Membership offers more than professional development. We provide a strong network of like-minded peers, lasting friendships, and a platform for personal growth. Whether you are preparing training contract applications, seeking your first internship, or building your CV, WILSOC provides the resources, guidance, and community to help you succeed.
We are proud to have been recognised for our impact. In 2025, we were shortlisted as one of the Top 5 Societies of the Year by the Guild of Students and named the 2nd Most Impactful Society in the UK by the Huzzle 100. These achievements reflect our dedication to empowering women in law and creating meaningful change within the university and the wider legal community.
