Who We Are

Like the Citizens Advice Bureau, we give practical advice on all kinds of subjects relating to student life. Our Education and Welfare Advisors specialise in Academic and Money support, but can also signpost and provide general guidance for Housing, Wellbeing and International Support concerns.

We are on hand if you need someone to talk to.

Just submit a webform or visit our team at one of our drop-in sessions. The majority of our advice is provided via email and we also offer drop-in sessions too. Please allow 3-5 working days to receive a response from our team via email.

What We Do

As well as providing advice and guidance we conduct research to help prepare you for University Academic meetings and arrange appropriate representation as and when required. We can also offer support with checking through appeals and complaints and can guide you through the processes.

In-person Support

Guild Advice offers one in person drop in a week taking place on Wednesdays 12-2pm term time only. Also keep an eye on our events for additional pop-up drop ins.

Drop ins are offered on a first come first served basis for brand new enquires. They are limited to 15 minutes to provide initial support and guidance, any additional advice or casework required will be continued with your advisor by email or agreed appointents. If you have already recieved in person or email advice on your concern please email your advisor.

If you require further in-person support the University provide a variety of support services, from counselling appointments to international visa guidance.

Not On is a joint campaign, launched by the University of Birmingham and the Guild of Students, to raise awareness of sexual harassment issues.

The aim of the campaign is to promote an environment in which sexual harassment of any kind is deemed to be wholly unacceptable and to enable students to have the knowledge, ability and confidence to report and take action against all forms of sexual harassment.
