We’re thrilled to share that Professor Celia Greenway, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement has been awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Guild of Students ahead of her stepping down at the end of the academic year.

Throughout her seven-year term, Celia has consistently championed the Guild and the interests of students at the University of Birmingham. Her work in supporting the student rep system has been exemplary and as a result, this has gone from strength to strength. We’ve seen more comprehensive training, effective organisation and recognition for student reps.

Celia pushed the ‘You Said, We Did’ campaign which ensured students and staff heard about the changes the University have made because of student feedback. All this together has created a better experience for students (and reps) and has helped raise the student voice.

Celia was nominated and presented the membership by the 2024/25 Education Officer Alex Keen, he said:

"It is a privilege to have awarded Professor Celia Greenway with an honorary life membership of the Guild of Students in recognition of her unwavering dedication to student experience, student representation, and the Guild’s mission. Over her seven-year term, Celia has been a tireless advocate for a better student experience, transforming the rep system, championing initiatives like 'You Said, We Did' and the personal academic tutoring system, alongside strengthening the partnership between the Guild and the University.

Her support for officer teams and her commitment to student engagement have left a lasting legacy. On behalf of the Guild and the many students who have benefited from her guidance and efforts, I would like to extend thanks to Celia and wish her all the very best in her future endeavours."
