Must-see spots in Birmingham

Just a short walk away from campus will lead you to Winterbourne House and Garden, where you can enjoy tranquil botanic gardens in the grounds of an Edwardian historic house. Winterbourne is currently commemorating 125 years of the University of Birmingham with the ‘Wonders of Winterbourne’ highlighting a list of wonders for you to tick off this summer! P.S. as a UoB student you get free admission to the site with a valid UoB ID card.

Although the Library of Birmingham is a great place to change up your study spots and browse for the perfect book, there’s so much more to it. The library has an outdoor amphitheatre where you can often enjoy poetry reading, live music, drama and more. There’s even more to discover across its ten floors, so get exploring!

Spanning over 35 miles, Birmingham is said to have more canals than Venice! Why not get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and explore the Birmingham Canal Navigations. You might just find your new favourite spot to relax, or you might discover one of many waterfront restaurants and bars!

It’s also worth checking local guides for all the latest events and activities you can get involved in over the summer months.

Travel further afield

With train stations like New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street right in the city centre, Birmingham is well connected to other major cities for you to explore. You’re just a short train ride away from Shropshire, Worcester, Stafford, Solihull and much more!

Support over summer

Although many students may choose to stay at home over the summer break, we’re not going anywhere! Our Community Pantry will still be open for students in need of support - you’ll just have to collect your food parcel from our reception instead. The Guild building will be open from 9am-5pm and you can still contact all our services and seek support online.
